Sūra 84: Inshiqāq, or The Rending Asunder

Verses 25 — Makki; Revealed at Mecca — Sections 1

١- إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ
1. When the Sky is Rent asunder,
٢- وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
2. And hearkens to (The Command of) its Lord,— And it must needs (Do so);—
٣- وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
3. And when the Earth is flattened out,
٤- وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
4. And casts forth What is within it And becomes (clean) empty,
٥- وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
5. And hearkens to (The Command of) its Lord,— And it must needs (Do so);—(then will come Home the full Reality).
٦- يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ
6. O thou man ! Verily thou art ever Toiling on towards the Lord— Painfully toiling,— but thou Shalt meet Him.
٧- فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ
7. Then he who is given His Record in his Right hand,
٨- فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
8. Soon will his account Be taken by an easy reckoning,
٩- وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
9. And he will turn To his people, rejoicing !
١٠- وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ
10. But he who is given His Record behind his back,—
١١- فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا
11. Soon will he cry For Perdition,
١٢- وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
12. And he will enter A Blazing Fire.
١٣- إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
13. Truly, did he go about Among his people, rejoicing!
١٤- إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
14. Truly, did he think That he would not Have to return (to Us) !
١٥- بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا
15. Nay nay ! for his Lord Was (ever) watchful of him !
١٦- فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ
16. So I do call To witness the ruddy glow Of Sunset ;
١٧- وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
17. The Night and its Homing ;
١٨- وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ
18. And the Moon In her Fullness :
١٩- لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
19. Ye shall surely travel From stage to stage.
٢٠- فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
20. What then is the matter With them, that they Believe not ?—
٢١- وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ السجدة
21. And when the Qur-ān Is read to them, they Fall not prostrate,
٢٢- بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ
22. But on the contrary The Unbelievers reject (it).
٢٣- وَاللَّـهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
23. But God has full Knowledge Of what they secrete (in their breasts)
٢٤- فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
24. So announce to them A Penalty Grievous,
٢٥- إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
25. Except to those who believe And work righteous deeds : For them is a Reward That will never fail.
